The Taste of Summer, The Heart of Sicily.

In Sicily, summer smells like delicious tomatoes and embodies old family traditions. When I was a little girl growing up there, one summer ritual I looked forward to all year was making tomato sauce with my family.

It was a joyful and sacred moment — all generations gathered together, from grandparents to children, to transform tomatoes into the delicious sauce that would nourish us throughout the winter. The ritual of making la salsa begins early in the morning when the air is still fresh and filled with the aroma of summer. My special task was to wash the tomatoes in cold water. The sensation is unforgettable; the contrast between the coolness of the water and the heat already stored in the fruit by the Sicilian sun is magical. 

There is a rhythm to it all — the splash of water, the murmur of voices. These are memories I carry in my heart. This is not just a recipe but a transmission of love, memory, and belonging. Grandmothers show the younger generations how to stir slowly and patiently. Every movement is intentional and filled with care. Every jar filled is a promise of flavor, family, and future meals shared.

Seekelia was born from these memories. Every earring I create carries a piece of Sicily: its sun, its warmth, and its soul.
